About the Item

Tulu rugs represent one of the earliest forms of nomadic pile weaving, typically knotted with a medium-high pile as they were meant as bedding rugs for the tent. The patterns are quite simple, ranging from completely open fields to stacked niches, with basic geometric patterns such as the one here representing some interesting variants. Here the field is embellished by an infinite repeat dotted pattern, which gains momentum by virtue of the irregular colour variations of the background, creating a syncopated and colourful stripe pattern. A great work of highly creative woven tribal art.
