About the Item

Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, this 3x11 vintage rug is an exciting new piece in Rug & Kilim’s Mid-Century Pasha Collection—a rare curation believed to hail from mid-century Turkish artist and icon Zeki Müren. On The Design: One of the many arts of this piece is the variety of colors, and the smart way they’re used to lend such a playful sense of movement and modern mid-century flair to an otherwise soothing repeat of geometric patterns—a mark of finesse considered one of Müren’s many hallmarks. Admirers of the craft will further appreciate the way such uncommon colors for the period breath a modern sense of life into such traditional patterns like this play of minimal cubist patterns (though the deft hand behind such a fine repeat with so many color variations is ahead of its time as well). Both this talent for making a classic his own and quality of work, too, speak to Müren as a student of his craft, and make his works as collectible to the connoisseur as they are inviting and whimsical to designers. Furthermore this is among the longest runners our team has curated among his suspected works—especially desirable for long, narrow hallways, and even full staircases, among its vast interior applications.
