This 5x6 antique Aubusson rug is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s European rug collection—an elegant curation of the French Neoclassical flatweave style, handwoven in wool and believed to originate from France circa 1830-1840. On the Design: Admirers of the craft may appreciate this design’s influences from those of the court of Louis XVI, though this is a mid-19th-century reimagining of that sensibility. Keen eyes for detail will particularly note this rug’s masterful execution of symmetry, scale, and movement among its countless beauties—all exemplary of the French tapestry weave style, like few that remain of its kind today. The colorway is one of the most delicious elements here, where a blush pink tone is favored in the medallions and floral patterns beside green, red, gold and beige-brown tones.
