About the Item

a genuine 17th century Iberian Baroque armchair. Constructed of solid walnut with original leather upholstery and brass nailhead trim. The shaped high back features a distinctive triple-arch cresting rail with flanking volutes, upholstered in natural parchment-toned leather secured throughout with brass nailheads. The boldly scrolled open arms terminate in pronounced volute hand rests supported by carved arm supports. The seat is generously proportioned with leather upholstery and nailhead trim to the apron. The piece rests on turned baluster front legs joined by a double bobbin-turned front stretcher; a construction detail characteristic of late 17th century Iberian furniture. Contains a plain H-stretcher to the rear. Made in Europe circa late 17th century. No visible maker's marks or labels are present on this piece. This chair shows gentle wear consistent with age and use. The leather displays natural patination, wear. This armchair is a commanding and rare antique statement piece suited to a library, study, dining room head position, or as a singular accent in any interior where historical gravitas is desired. Its scale, authentic period construction, and original leather make it exceptional among comparable Baroque seating.
