About the Item

Designed in 1954 by the celebrated Norwegian duo Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling, the Bambi Lounge Chair (Model 56) is one of the defining masterpieces of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern design. Produced by Gustav Bahus & Eft in Norway, the chair perfectly captures the organic elegance and exceptional craftsmanship that established Norwegian design on the international stage. Its distinctive sculptural silhouette inspired the name "Bambi," with slender, tapering legs that evoke the graceful stance of a young deer. Beautifully sculpted solid teak arms flow seamlessly into the gently reclined backrest, creating a continuous organic form that is both visually light and remarkably comfortable. Every curve reflects the designers' commitment to combining refined aesthetics with ergonomic function. The warm teak frame is complemented by its original leather sling seat and back, creating a striking contrast between the richness of the wood and the flexibility of the suspended upholstery. This listing is for the chair in its original vintage condition, allowing collectors to appreciate its authentic character and natural patina developed over decades of careful use. The price is for one chair, and we currently have a matching pair available. If you are looking for a fully restored example, we also offer professional restoration services. The leather can be replaced in a wide selection of premium leathers and colours to suit your interior or personal preference for an additional cost. Please contact us to discuss restoration options and pricing. The Bambi chair represents an important moment in postwar Scandinavian design, when furniture evolved from strict geometric forms toward softer, nature-inspired forms. Its sophisticated joinery, sculpted components, and suspended leather construction made it one of the most technically demanding pieces of its era, resulting in relatively limited production compared to many other Scandinavian classics. Today, original examples remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide and continue to be celebrated as one of the icons of Norwegian Modern design.
