About the Item

This elegant pair of antique French bergères brings strong presence and refined Louis XVI detailing, highlighted by beautifully carved walnut frames and distinctive eagle crest pediments. Crafted circa 1880, each chair features a tall, shaped back flanked by fluted uprights and topped with a finely carved spread-wing eagle, adding a bold architectural focal point. The frames are richly decorated throughout, from the scrolling acanthus-carved arms to the molded and carved apron, all raised on tapered and fluted legs. The generous proportions and deep seats offer exceptional comfort, with removable cushions designed for relaxed seating. The chairs retain their original silk upholstery in a soft golden yellow with classical urn and garland motifs, now showing visible wear consistent with age. They present an excellent opportunity for reupholstery, allowing the next owner to customize the fabric while preserving the strong antique frames and beautiful carving.
