About the Item

Pair of Sculptural Swedish Modern Lounge Chairs in Bouclé, 1940s–1950s A striking and sculptural pair of Swedish Modern lounge chairs from the mid-20th century, embodying the refined transition between the elegance of Swedish Grace and the emerging clarity of early Modernism. These chairs are defined by their beautifully curved and architectural armrests in warm-toned wood, forming a continuous, flowing line from arm to leg. The silhouette is both grounded and organic – a hallmark of Scandinavian design at its most expressive. Recently reupholstered in a rich, textured white bouclé, the chairs offer a tactile contrast to the smooth wooden frame. The soft, enveloping upholstery enhances the generous proportions, creating a sense of comfort while maintaining a distinctly sculptural presence. The fluted backrest adds rhythm and verticality, subtly echoing classical influences while remaining firmly rooted in the modernist tradition. Seen from any angle, the chairs reveal a careful balance between form, material, and craftsmanship. This is not merely a pair of seating pieces, but a composition – equally suited for a refined living room, a curated interior project, or a statement setting where Scandinavian design takes center stage. The chairs remain in very good vintage condition, with minor restorations and age-related wear to the wooden armrests, consistent with their history and authenticity. A rare opportunity to acquire a pair that captures both the softness and strength of Swedish Modern design.
