About the Item

Available today, this Brazilian modern armchair made in Hardwood, Leather and Bouclé by Giuseppe Scapinelli, in the fifties is nothing less than spectacular! This vintage armchair is made in Caviuna hardwood and has a funky green fabric with patterns in a very midcentury style. It has curved arms and four toothpick legs. The sculpted back looks like the tail of a whale and is also upholstered giving a striking though very delicate look. Attached an image of the armchair in its original state for reference. The armchair is showcased in our gallery next to a Jorge Zalszupin Credenza and two accent chairs, also from him (images attached) This effortlessly sleek armchair can blend into almost any type of contemporary, Mid-Century Modern, boho chic, or modern environment. A beautiful piece like this, will add a touch of Mid-Century Modern swagger to any home! This iconic design has been countlessly photographed appearing in vintage as contemporary publications. Attached images showcasing this timeless beauty. Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in 1891 in Modena, Italy, but like many of his Italian fellows, he crossed the ocean and immigrated to Brazil where he started a new life. An accomplished painter, ceramist, and sculptor, he began his career as a furniture designer in the early 1950s. Scapinelli was both a furniture maker and retailer in 1950s-1960s in São Paulo. His futuristic style is easily recognizable because of the curvy lines and soft shapes, inspired by the Italian design of the 1940s, a departure from the mainstream designs of his fellow retailers. His pieces are beautifully crafted in Brazilian traditional wood. He designed and produced many unique pieces for distinctive São Paulo homes. Scapinelli died in 1982. Size: H37, W28.3, D27.2, SH16.9 (in) H94, W72, D69, SH43.
