About the Item

A rare Victorian William Birch deep seated armchair of generous proportions. The chair has a comfortable deep seat and a high deep button gently curved back with beautifully curved arms over mahogany turned legs. All finished on brass castors and stamped with the initials W.B to the rear leg with the number 178. The armchair has been fully restored and stripped back to the solid oak frame for upholstery with a restored coil spring base, with hessian lining and calico coverings added ready for new upholstery. A beautifully executed English country house armchair from the golden age of Victorian furniture manufacture and design. English, circa 1860.
