About the Item

Designed by Luigi Bistagnino for Gufram, the Womb is a legendary sculptural armchair that embodies the brand's founding belief that true Radical Design must also deliver functionality and absolute comfort. Conceived in 1972 and entering the catalogue the following year, Womb remains one of Gufram's most beloved and enduring pieces. Born at Eurodomus 4 Womb was first presented to Gufram at the legendary Eurodomus 4, the influential fair dedicated to showcasing the furniture and homes of the future. That charged, revolutionary environment provided the perfect setting for Bistagnino's idea to take shape, cementing Womb's place within the golden era of Italian Radical Design. A Childhood Memory Made Comfort Womb draws its inspiration from an intimate, personal memory: the designer's recollection of his grandparents' unquilted duvet, which would billow and envelop him each time he jumped onto the bed as a child. That same enveloping softness defines the Womb armchair, wrapping the sitter in comfort reminiscent of a mother's embrace—hence its evocative name. As Bistagnino himself has described it, once seated in this "cloud," one never wishes to rise again. Beyond its plush softness, Womb also delivers genuine ergonomic performance, made possible by Gufram's manufacturing expertise. The designer has called it a piece psychologists should prescribe, since its rounded, embryonic form calms the sitter by recalling an early, primal state of security. With its airy, rounded silhouette, Womb welcomes the body from any angle, inviting long, relaxing seating sessions. Craftsmanship & Materials The Womb armchair is built on a soft polyurethane structure, upholstered in Chenille Chalk fabric that enhances the piece's enveloping, cloud-like softness while adding a warm, tactile finish. Seat of soft polyurethane upholstered with fabric Chenille Chalk. New and Made to Order Customizable Gubi Pacha Lounge Armchair by Pierre Paulin

New and Made to Order Customizable Gubi Pacha Lounge Armchair by Pierre Paulin

By Pierre Paulin, Gubi

Located in New York, NY

Price listed for starting fabric. Curvaceous, soft and low-slung, the Pacha lounge chair is a joyfully modernist creation which embraces both extreme comfort and effortless versatility. Iconic designer Pierre Paulin’s vision was to create a sensation of ‘sitting on clouds’. A little ahead of its time in 1975, the modular Pacha Collection is finally coming into its own today. While the overall feel is organic and hyper-relaxed, Paulin’s obsession for ergonomic precision and craftsmanship can only be fully appreciated by sitting in one of his striking creations. Taking up very little floor space, it is extraordinarily comfortable, and there is also a choice between a fixed or swiveling base. Paulin’s vision of sitting in an entire cloud formation is made possible by the many modular combinations available. The Pacha Ottoman provides extra comfort for the Lounge Chair, or even as an informal seat of its own. Mix and match Pacha Sofa...
