Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning original 19th Century hand carved French Empire circa 1840 oversized throne armchair with huge Griffin carved legs and Armorial Coat of Arms crest to the top Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price. This chair is absolutely stunning, its hand carved from head to toe, its a Museum quality piece and commands attention in any setting The chair is quite unique in the sense that the craftsman has paid the same attention the back legs as the front, you have four, fully carved top to bottom Griffins as apposed to just the front two, usually the back legs are more basic, the idea with this type of work is to make it an exhibition piece that can stand independently in the middle of a room and be admired from all angles At the top back of the chair you have a Royal Armorial Crest Coat of Arms, this again has been been carved front and back which I've never seen, the quality of this work is second to none Condition wise we have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there are old repairs as you would expect for such a large and ornate piece, I can see some supports have been fitted to the outside back of the Armorial crest, the back rest being so tall has a small amount of play as do the arms, its still solid and stable of course, its just the nature of having such a huge chair with long slabs of timber Dimensions Height:- 130cm Width:- 64cm Depth:- 83cm Seat height:- 42cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
