About the Item

Mid Century Modern Model 350 Chairs By Arno Votteler For Walter Knoll, Germany 1950s These are a pair of original model 350 chairs designed by Arno Votteler for Walter Knoll. They are rare and in their original shape, but we suggest reupholstering them before use, as the upholstery may be worn out with loose seams and minor stains. Arno Votteler was a German industrial designer, architect, and teacher who significantly contributed to modern design in Germany. He was born in 1923 in Stuttgart and studied architecture at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. After completing his studies, Votteler worked as a freelance designer and architect and became the design department head at the Bauscher ceramics factory in Weiden in 1953. Additionally, Votteler was an influential teacher and writer on design, teaching at institutions such as the Ulm School of Design alongside prominent designers like Max Bill and Otl Aicher. Votteler's work is characterized by simplicity, functionality, and modern materials and manufacturing techniques, often featuring clean lines, geometric forms, and striking color and texture combinations. Today, Votteler's designs are highly regarded examples of Mid-century modern design, showcased in museums and galleries worldwide.
