About the Item

English, ca. 1780 A rare and elegant pair of late 18th-century armchairs, dating to circa 1780 and firmly rooted in the refined aesthetic of the George III period. These chairs beautifully embody the neoclassical ideals championed by Robert Adam, with their harmonious proportions, delicate carvings, and restrained yet sophisticated ornamentation. The frames are exquisitely crafted in carved wood, finished in a soft stone-white paint that has mellowed gracefully over time, developing a richly layered patina that speaks to their age and authenticity. Fine fluted legs, crisply carved floral pattreas. The fluted rails reflect the lightness and architectural clarity characteristic of Adam-inspired design. Both chairs are generously proportioned with a comfortable, gently curved back and shaped arms, offering not only visual sophistication but also practical comfort. A distinguished and decorative pair, perfect for adding a touch of 18th-century English refinement to both classic and contemporary interiors.
