About the Item

A pair of oak armchairs by Armand-Albert Rateau. Feautring curled arm supports, wide caned seats and caned concave backs, both chairs stand on two carved and tapered front legs, sculpted each at the top with stylized bunches of grapes. The back legs curve slightly outwards. Armand-Albert Rateau (1882-1938), described by Architectural Digest as "one of the most exclusive interior designers of the 1920s" was a French designer and furniture maker. Rateau is especially known for his innovative bronze funiture creations and his design collaborations with the Jeanne-Marie Lanvin.
