About the Item

Elegant Chinese carved wood bench with a rich reddish-brown patina. The apron is decorated on all four sides with finely carved and pierced panels depicting animated scenes of figures among pavilions, bridges, trees and abundant vegetation. These detailed relief compositions are framed by carved geometric and floral borders that continue along the uprights and legs. The bench stands on four straight legs decorated with flowers and foliage and terminating in geometric Greek-key motifs. The seat features a central panel of finely woven rattan. The richness of the carving and the depth of the decoration give this piece a strong sculptural and decorative presence. It may be used as a bench, occasional seat or low table in a traditional, eclectic or contemporary interior.
