About the Item

A rare antique bench, coffee table or daybed, with multiple uses. This authentic table is from the island of Madura. Circa 1940. Hand made in a traditional way using wooden dowels. Stunning intricate carving, all by hand, with beautiful patina on this aged teak wood. Perfect at the end of a bed, as shown in the final image. This antique piece of furniture was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility.
