About the Item

This is a hand-carved Italian grotto tête-à-tête bench, dating to the mid- 20th century. We believe that the piece originally had a silver gilt finish, but it was refinished at some point and now exhibits a walnut surface. The bench is carved in grotto form, having shell carved seats with dolphin carved arms, and carved conch shell legs. It makes for a great statement in a living room, a foyer, or a green house. The piece measures 25 inches deep, 46 inches wide, and 29.5 inches high. It has a seat height of 16 inches.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. This is an older piece and shows signs of age and use. The seats are constructed using an additional piece of wood for depth, so there is a seam. There are cracks on the legs and throughout the piece, but it is solid and ready for installation.
