About the Item

An iconic example of Norwegian mid-century design, this original Krobo bench was designed by Torbjørn Afdal for Bruksbo (Mellemstrands Trevareindustri) in the early 1960s. Celebrated for its clean architectural lines and remarkable versatility, the Krobo has become one of the most enduring Scandinavian furniture designs of the period. Originally conceived as a multifunctional piece, it serves equally well as a bench, coffee table, console or display surface. This example is made out from beautifully figured Brazilian rosewood, displaying dramatic grain patterns and warm, rich tones that make every piece unique. The elegant raised side edges subtly frame the top, while the solid end supports and black steel braces create a refined balance between lightness and structural strength. A particularly desirable feature of this bench is its 2 metre length—the longest and most sought-after version of the Krobo model. Complete with its original Bruksbo/Mellemstrands label, this is an authentic first production example from the 1960s. A timeless Scandinavian design that functions effortlessly in both modern and classic interiors, combining exceptional craftsmanship with understated elegance. Presented in its original vintage condition with minor surface wear to the original lacquer, consistent with age and use. The beautiful rosewood grain has developed a rich patina over time.
