Inspired by the earth goddess Gaia,「Revelation of Gaia」aims to explore the mighty but soft inner power and to praise the mysterious nature. With this collection, we try to break the boundary between artistic sculpture and practical furniture and explore different materials. It is an artistic scene made up of furniture. The soft and tender fur covering the tough structures, touching the ground, reflects the power of the all-encompassing earth. The hair flutters with the flow of air, like the quietly rhythmical breathing of living creatures. Grand and delicate, strong and soft, it pictures the female spiritual profile and represents the strength and tenderness of female quality. In the collection, the table and two benches create the core as the scene of primitive worship. Like a silently divine beast, the bulky rectangular body of the cabinet is supported by two reliable feet that strongly grip the ground, with long hair of the fur drapes and soften it. Inside the cabinet is a hot and passionate hue of red, contrasted with the neutral color on the outside, it is a metaphor for the mighty inner power and profound emotions of women. As a lovely variation in the collection, mirrors are regarded as the symbol of reason and self-awareness. We took on this to bring the calmness of reason and order into the collection by abstract method. Atelier V&F was co-founded by Chen Furong and Vega Zaishi Wang in Shenzhen. Chen Furong graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, majoring in comprehensive design. And he started the design studios WUU and CHEN FURONG Studio. Vega Zaishi Wang graduated from the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin and founded the designer brand VEGA ZAISHI WANG. The designers’ professional background and artistic upbringing become the intrinsic character of Atelier V&F. Their expertise, professional knowledge, and years of experience in the design field are the fertile ground for the development and exploration of Atelier V&F that enable it to break the divide of territories and cultures, and with an inclusive narrative to interpret aesthetics and functionality. The two designers’ poetics of life and living, their respect for different materials’ true nature, and their unceasing pursuit of exquisite craftsmanship instill vitality into Atelier V&F’s works from artistic sculptures, installments, and space to practical and utilitarian objects. Vega’s intuitive riding on fashion’s romantic urge and flow and Furong’s philosophical perspective on practical design is combined in one artistic expression, making their works both detailedly practical and ceremonial. As a married couple, the duo instills powerful emotional strength to the work of Atelier V&F, trying to interpret and represent the non-utilitarian and simple beauty in a coldly rational and precise world.
