About the Item

Child's Broad Arm Windsor Chair. This charming late 19th-century child's Windsor broad arm chair, crafted from yew wood and ash, beautifully captures the character and craftsmanship of the period. Scaled down to child's size, it features a high spindle back with a graceful hoop top, curved broad arms supported by six finely turned supports, and a fretted motif to the central splats. The well-shaped ash seat rests on elegant turned legs united by an H-form stretcher, ensuring both stability and balance. Retaining its original warm colour and rich patination, this delightful piece has aged wonderfully, with only a couple of spindles replaced over time. A true example of traditional Windsor chairmaking, it combines charm, authenticity, and timeless appeal. The Windsor chair is recognised as one of the classics of English country furniture. They were often made by village craftsmen to traditional designs in native woods like elm, ash, beech and yew. Dimensions: Height 89.5 cm / 35 " Width 54 cm / 21 1⁄2" Depth 45 cm / 17 "
