For those with a keen interest in historic pieces that have essentially evolved into artful pieces, this early American three-slat ladder back with stunning splint weave seat, most likely done with shavings of willow, is something worthy of your time to review. The craftsmanship and condition of this chair is amazing. Bearing some of the original maker's marks on the chair legs, as well as the wonderful irregularities found in a fully hand-crafted piece of this type, we're brought even more closely to the maker's artistic intentions. The color is a rich deep amber/chestnut blend. The seat resembles that of aged leather with the beauty of the thick shavings of wood that were once soaked and then intricately wrapped around the seat's frame, left to dry, making it incredibly durable over the years. The overall frame of the chair is reflective of the period from which it came, sans any intricate turns, just indications of a maker whose focus was on a quality made utilitarian piece that would outlast his generation.
