Valuable and beautiful French chair is made of fine walnut wood and Dedar fabric seat upholstery; the chair, perfect for a desk or writing desk, is a typical and classic example of Empire style in the so-called " gondola" shape. Very distinctive are the carvings, made by hand, where the backrest joins the front legs that schematically represent the heads of two snakes with gaping jaws. "Empire style gondola chairs" refer to a particular type of chair that combines the empire and gondola styles in furniture. The empire style is characterized by regular shapes, straight and austere lines, inspired by ancient Rome and classical Greece. Empire chairs are usually made of fine wood, with gondola-shaped backs and straight legs. "Gondola" chairs feature backs that resemble the shape of a Venetian gondola, with an elegant, rounded curve. This style was very popular during the French Empire period, during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. Empire-style gondola chairs thus combine elements of both styles, with a base inspired by the French Empire and a back that recalls the shape of a gondola. Very successful model and offered in a variety of designs and invoices. This chair of great comfort and innovative form was also offered after the decline of the Empire, in the Restoration to disappear briefly under Louis Philippe and then reappear in the Second Empire. The chair was created by true Master Craftsmen between 1835 and 1840 in an artisan workshop in the town of Pont-de-Beauvoisin, a French commune in the department of Isère, nicknamed the city of furniture for its ancient tradition of woodworking. We proceeded to restore the seat in its upholstery and with a new cover; the master craftsman who did the work chose a sophisticated and very expensive Dedar embroidered cotton satin fabric. Dedar is an old textile company located in Lombardy (Italy) with production excellence thanks to artisans and textile experts, masters in the techniques used in the creation of exclusive and original fabrics; Dedar expresses a very personal style in its products, creating collections that are always at the forefront of high fashion for upholstery fabrics; Dedar specializes in the production of high-end fabrics and wallpapers. The company is known for its exquisite design, attention to detail, and use of luxury materials. Dedar offers a wide range of fabrics, including upholstery fabrics, curtains, veils, and trimmings, as well as a collection of unique wallpapers. The Lombard company's Italian style and design are world-renowned. Our chair can be an elegant and distinctive element in the decor of a home or room in the classical style, a charming and sophisticated object, compelling and versatile, and easily placed in any room. The chair, having been restored, is in excellent condition. Measures width cm.45, depth cm.42, height cm.85, seat cm.45. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the items.

Particular and elegant chair with a solid and functional structure; the most interesting part of the chair is the elaborate and imaginative backrest with a harmonious and refined design; in the middle, there is precious woodwork, carved with skill and ability by a master cabinetmaker; the front legs have been meticulously turned to give them a light and proportionate shape, while the rear ones have a slightly curved square section; the seat top is removable and a wooden pin on the front crossbar allows the top itself to fit perfectly into its natural housing. The seat upholstery was replaced in ancient times and is in good condition (a bit of wear on the front, see photo) so we did not consider doing any restoration on the whole chair because its authentic look and slight imperfections make it really seductive and fascinating and attest its antiquity.
