About the Item

The Executive Chair, designed by Charles Pollock for Knoll, launched in 1963 (some sources cite 1965) and became one of the best-known office chairs of the 20th century. Pollock spent five years developing it before release. Its signature feature is "rim technology" — a single extruded aluminum band that wraps the chair's perimeter, acting as the entire structural frame. Slots in the rim hold the upholstered back shell and seat in place without additional support, which also let the chair be assembled simply. Frame finishes were polished chrome or black anodized aluminum; upholstery used multi-density urethane foam with a button-tufted detail, typically in leather.
