Folding Udder Chair by Henry D'ath Unique Edition Dimensions: D 45 x W 45 x H 77.5 cm Materials: Wood, steel. Piece is handmade by artist. The folding udder chair merges two symbols of industry. A mass-produced bent tube chair and the mammary gland of a dairy cow. The chair frame is a found object, left discarded at a refuse station. The udder is a parody of the cow’s organ, hand-carved from wood and finished in a gloss epoxy. In our current world these two things have been ushered increasingly closer together. Both manipulated to support our desire for comfort and indulgence. Henry d’ath is a New Zealand-born, Hong Kong-based artist and architect. Using predominantly salvaged material, the artist routinely handworks each piece over many months resulting in lucid, yet ambiguously functional pieces of sculpture. Each work in this current collection is an individual edition in an ongoing series, hand-made by the artist themselves.
