About the Item

Designed in 1982 by renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta for the Italian brand Alias, the Seconda chair is a definitive icon of the Postmodern era. Celebrated for its rigid geometry, it features a lacquered steel frame, a perforated sheet-metal seat, and two distinct cylindrical polyurethane backrests. The chair merges Botta's architectural background with industrial design, utilizing basic geometric forms (circles, squares, cylinders) to create a graphic, rational silhouette. The Seconda Chair is featured in the permanent design collections of major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Brooklyn Museum. Molded manufacturer's mark on the backrest of each chair 'Alias Italy'. Holographic decal distributor's label to underside of two examples 'ICF'. Enameled steel and rubber. H 28.25 x W 20.5 x D 22.75 in. Provenance: Private Collection.
