About the Item

An exceptional example of Brazilian modernist craftsmanship, the Cane Chair was designed in 1952 by Jacob Ruchti for Branco & Preto, one of São Paulo’s most influential architecture and design studios. Founded in the early 1950s, Branco & Preto became a true symbol of innovation, bridging architecture and furniture design through clean lines, functional elegance, and the use of noble materials. Handcrafted in solid rosewood with natural woven cane, the chair reflects the studio’s refined balance between structure and lightness. Its rounded contours and precise joinery highlight Ruchti’s sensitivity to proportion and material integrity, elements that defined the studio’s distinctive visual language.
