About the Item

In the late 1970s, Pierre Chapo’s research took a new direction. In 1979, he presented one of the most accomplished designer chairs of the 20th century: the S45, aka “Chlacc,” the name of the patented manufacturing process for this type of furniture. The S 45 is composed of numerous small wood sections joined and glued to each other. This process enabled Chapo to design a fine, lightweight structure with slender lines. The S 45 chair is technically and conceptually difficult to make. The user’s weight rests mainly on the crossed “Chlacc” feet and the solidity of the back is ensured by being secured to the two back legs, which stand at an angle of over 45°. Eleven assembly points join up the seven sections of the chair. The S 45 is one of the most sculptural creations in the Chapo catalog, a design that bears not a passing resemblance to the iconic tower in the capital where its creator was born.
