About the Item

Pair of rustic Austrian softwood peasant chairs (Bauernstühle), dating to circa 1800. Each chair is made of solid softwood with a shaped seat and a tall, simply profiled backrest featuring a central cut-out opening. The backs are gently curved with scalloped edges. The seats display natural grain, knots and an aged surface with honest wear from long use. The tapered legs are splayed for stability. The chairs have a warm, time-worn softwood tone and the robust, straightforward character typical of Alpine folk furniture around 1800. Dimensions of each chair: Height 87 cm Seat height 44 cm Width 45 cm Depth 37 cm A well-matched pair of regional Austrian peasant chairs with authentic patina and good presence.
