About the Item

Pharrell Williams, Perspective chair for Domeau & Pérès “If we could have fabricators for everything that we think in our lives, do you understand how great life would be?”. Born from the collaboration of a brilliant mind and great craftsmen, the Perspective chair can be seen as a marvelous illustration of this Pharrell Williams quote. Discreet homage to the Eames stacking chairs, the chair designed in 2008 is made of molded resin and a leather upholstered seat. It depicts “the love between a woman and a man” in a rather literal way, so to speak. “I had often wondered what it’s like to truly be in love, not lust for once. So I decided not to ask what it was like in someone else’s shoes or what it was like to sit in their seat. I decided to sketch out my own experiment—the Perspective Chair,” Pharrell said to The Guardian. Founded in 1996, by Bruno Domeau and Philippe Pérès, the Domeau & Pérès editions were a clear choice for manufacturing the chair. Both of the founders graduated from Les Compagnons du Devoir, one of the most prominent craftsmanship school, an institution in France dating back from the Middle Ages. Men of art on a quest for perfection, Bruno and Philippe have put their know how at the service of contemporary design, allowing them to work alongside the best creative minds of our era in the field of Decorative Arts. The Perspective chair was produced in four colors, red / yellow / black and blue, in a limited number of eight chairs per color. The chair shown here is not one of them; the chair shown here, from Bruno Domeau’s personal collection, is one of eight additional chairs (two per color) produced exclusively for the editors. A rarity among the already rare Perspective chairs. Signed on plate under the seat.

Gerard Le Fe Fibreglass Chair for Prisunic Editions, France, circa 1970

Gerard Le Fe Fibreglass Chair for Prisunic Editions, France, circa 1970

By Prisunic

Located in London, GB

Prisunic editions was both a manufacturer and retailer founded in France during 1968. The company’s aim was to revolutionise the furniture industry within France offering the consumer a cutting edge product and retail experience. Prisunic editions sold its futuristic designs often from moulded plastic and fiberglass through a catalogue. Their approach was guided by a desire to create impactful design that was affordable to the masses. Their project attracted highly regarded designers from across Europe such as Marc Held, Gae Aulenti and Terence Conran. This chair’s form is very much a consequence of the moulding process employed. The chairs soft undulating curves are not an aesthetic decision per se but in fact the result of engineering. The chair is in good structural and cosmetic condition with minor signs of use and sits like a dream with our Marc Berthier Ozoo desk...
