About the Item

Maison Lecan presents this set of three solid pine alpine chairs, France, 1950s. This type of artisanal furniture, produced outside any edition or series, in mountain workshops, is one of the most direct expressions of the relationship to material in 20th-century French furniture. No design in the industrial sense: a gesture, a tool, wood. The three seats are round or oval, carved from the solid, thick, with strongly marked grain and visible knots. The backrests, vertical pine planks, slightly different in profile on each chair are set directly into the seat without transition. The raw pine tripod legs are angled under the seat: irregular section, hand-worked surface. The deep, even patina, finished in matt varnish, reinforces the visual density of the whole. The three chairs are distinct in proportion and detail : same origin, same vocabulary, three characters. Stable and solid, they lend themselves more naturally to a repurposed use : bedside table, plant stand, decorative object placed in a space than to everyday seating. Sold as a set.
