About the Item

A spectacular late 19th/early 20th century French iron and bronze chaise longue or lounge, crafted in the Campaign style. The folding chair features a dramatic elongated lounge form with a tall back, integrated arms, extended footrest, and an arched iron foot rail. The frame is executed in a rich combination of darkened iron, bronze, and brass, all with aged patination. The back is composed of a ladder-form dark iron support crowned by two horizontal brass rods with turned bronze spindles and ball finials. The lower frame features slender arms with whimsical scrolled end flourishes, and padded supports. The lounge is supported by turned brass and iron legs ending with small iron casters. The back has a support underneath so it can be fully extended in a flat laying daybed position. The lavish upholstery is executed in a soft plush champagne-toned fabric with tailored boxed cushions, piped edges, and a loose back seat cushion. The rear back cushion is suspended from a decorative brass rail and fastened by horn buckles. The lounge has a well-heeled, opulent style, perfectly suited for the Amalfi Coast or St. Tropez. The iron frame has a desirable weathered patina as seen in photos. The vintage fabric shows well and is presentable with light age as expected. The piece has an unique character, blending Campaign design with country French Provincial style, executed in an elegant piece well suited for a garden, orangery, conservatory, or sunroom.     Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. Age-appropriate wear with scuffs, oxidation, finish losses, and rubbing as seen in photos. Iron and brass both have a toned and aged patina with oxidation. Later upholstery presents well with light marks and creasing.
