About the Item

Origin Ply Chaise by Batten and Kamp Dimensions: W170 x D 53 x H100 cm Materials: Oak plywood, granite stone, steel fixings. ‘Origin’ and ‘Elsewhere’ are two counterpart lounge chairs. ‘Origin’ features a minimal and earthy jet black plywood seat mounted to a raw granite boulder while ‘Elsewhere’ employs a similar heavy stone to suspend a moulded sheet of hand-scuffed clear acrylic. “We always imagined Origin sitting on a windswept coastline of New Zealand staring out into space and Elsewhere on the rocky surface of another planet looking longingly back at earth.” Batten and Kamp launch a new collection of sculptural furniture inspired by New Zealand and science fiction. The Hong Kong based, New Zealand design duo’s limited edition ‘functional sculptures’ are born of their mixed interests in nature and science fiction and are being launched at a new solo exhibition in December Batten and Kamp is a creative partnership between interior architect Alexandra Batten and designer or artist Daniel Kamp. The duo creates one of a kind furniture, objects, installations, and interiors with clients and collaborators in Hong Kong, New Zealand and the wider Asia Pacific. Their projects have received accolades around the world, most recently their ‘Shelter to Ground’ collection was published in esteemed cultural publications such as Design Boom and Design Anthology. “Our work is a pursuit of raw beauty, of poetry in three dimensions. Art and design, creation and curation, product, sculpture, interiors, architecture - all of it - or none of it. Just beauty.”.
