About the Item

An exceptional Victorian folding campaign bed that cleverly doubles as a compact side table or console when not in use. Dating to the late 19th century, this British military piece features a solid oak X-frame base that folds accordion-style into a rectangular form, topped with a wooden lid and lower slatted shelf for use as a functional table. The bed unfolds into a generous seven-legged stretcher daybed with its original canvas sling seat, which is secured with riveted leather tabs and brass hardware. The subtle incline at one end suggests a reclining function for head support. When collapsed, the piece forms a neat and surprisingly elegant occasional table or entry bench—showcasing both the ingenuity and utility of 19th-century campaign furniture. A rare and versatile example of dual-purpose design from the Victorian era, equally suitable for collectors of military furnishings or those seeking distinctive, space-conscious antique design.

Unlike later reissues or restored examples, this piece remains in completely original condition, meticulously cleaned and now presenting as near mint.
