The iconic Cleopatra bed, designed by Dick Cordemeijer for the Dutch manufacturer Auping in 1953. This piece is a classic example of post-war Dutch modernism. Dick Cordemeijer (1924 - 2018) was a Dutch engineer and designer. He rose to fame thanks to his collaboration with Auping in the 1950s. His most famous design, the Cleopatra bed from 1953, became an icon of modern, lightweight furniture, meeting the new living needs of post-war Europe. Auping is a Dutch manufacturer founded in 1888 by Johannes Auping. The company began by producing metal hospital beds. Over time, Auping became synonymous with innovation, ergonomics, and modern design. The brand became renowned for introducing a metal mesh bed base, ensuring durability and ventilation. In the 1950s and 1960s, Auping collaborated with leading modernist designers, becoming a pillar of Dutch industrial design. The bed is in original vintage condition.
