About the Item

4 Chiavari "Impero Classica' S.A.C. original artisan handwoven seats, Italy 1950s. Four super light "Impero" dining or side chairs in stained mahogany beech, cherry or maple wood with original braided wicker seat that has been beautifully executed by the traditional wicker and woodwork craftsman of the Chiavaresi Area in North Italy This chair, model ''Impero'' was created by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi ''il Campanino'' (1767-1855) and manufactured by S.A.C. "Farbrica Sedie Artistiche Chiavaresi". The legendary Chiavari chair was the protagonist of the great Milanese design season of the 1950s which, among other things, inspired Gio Ponti to design the Legera chair (1952) and the Superleggera (1957) 4 Well preserved 1950s examples with a lovely aged patina wicker and slight user wear consistent with age and use.
