About the Item

Introducing a truly extraordinary limited set of four English-made dining chairs produced by Elliot's of Newbury. Styled in the manner of Arne Vodder's iconic Model 462 dining chair, this set is constructed from solid white oak that has been hand-sanded and left unfinished (with a protective wax coating) showcasing the natural beauty of the old-growth woodgrains. The chairs have been painted in a vintage-feeling color pallet but we can customize the paint scheme to best suit you or your clients' preference. The upholstery has been redone in kind-to-the-touch, marine grade vinyl and even the brass fasteners have been replaced with solid brass hardware forming an altogether polished chair set that is equal parts playful and sophisticated. The company was founded by Samuel Elliott in 1870 as a joinery works, Elliott's Moulding and Joinery Company Ltd. It produced ammunition boxes during the First World War made by a workforce composed 90% of women. It changed to furniture production after the war. In the Second World War, once more a largely female workforce produced components for aircraft, including the Supermarine Spitfire and numerous glider models that played an integral role in the Allied invasions of France and the Netherlands in 1944. After the Second World War, the company yet again returned to furniture making focusing on light-weight, minimalist pieces that reflected a changing Modern design elements emanating from Denmark. Incredibly rare, custom-restored by our team of craftsmen and featuring playful colors that can be changed to fit you or your clients preference this extraordinary set of four dining chairs is the very epitome of "one-of-a-kind". Ideal for both home and office settings this charming set can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Minimalism to Contemporary and everything in between. Buy them as is or have us customize the paint color and/or the upholstery. Either way, buy them today before they're truly gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 17.75 in / 45.09 cm Depth: 21 in / 53.34 cm Height: 31.5 in / 80.01 cm Seat Height: 17.75 in / 45.09 cm This expansive set of eight dining chairs designed in the manner of Arne Vodder's Model 462 dining chair and produced by Elliott's of Newbury has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process and we love the results. The solid white oak legs, frames and plywood backs have been hand-sanded and left unfinished and waxed with the only wear visible are a few pressure dings on the back rests, which have been painted with playful colors. The upholstery has been recovered in a kind-to-the-touch, marine-grade vinyl in a rich caramel tone is in showroom condition and features new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. The hardware has been replaced with solid brass fasteners for a long-lasting accent. The four colors seen in the photos can be changed to virtually any desired. If you wish to change the color pallet please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing. This truly one-of-a-kind expansive set of English-made Mid-Century Modern dining chairs is comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to their recent restoration process.
