About the Item

An elegant set of four B42 cantilever dining chairs, originally designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and produced by Tecta in Germany during the 1970s. A celebrated Bauhaus design, the B42 perfectly illustrates Mies’ philosophy of “less is more”, combining structural innovation with timeless elegance. Each chair features a gracefully curved tubular chrome-plated steel cantilever frame, creating the characteristic floating appearance while offering exceptional seating comfort through its subtle spring action. The seats and backrests are expertly handwoven in warm natural cane (rattan), providing a beautiful contrast to the polished steel and adding warmth, texture, and craftsmanship to the minimalist silhouette. Produced by Tecta, one of Germany’s most respected manufacturers of Bauhaus furniture, these chairs remain faithful to Mies van der Rohe’s original design while showcasing the exceptional quality for which Tecta is renowned. The iconic cantilever form appears remarkably light, yet is structurally robust and highly comfortable, making these chairs equally suited for everyday use or as collectible design pieces. Some of the chairs retain their original Tecta labels underneath, confirming their authenticity and provenance. The set presents in excellent vintage condition, with a beautifully preserved chrome finish and finely patinated woven cane that enhances their authentic character. A sophisticated and highly collectible ensemble that effortlessly complements both contemporary and classic interiors. Priced and sold as a set of 4 pieces.

Complete set of four chrome cantilever MR10 chairs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, in brown leather. This set of chairs is an early 1960s example of his famous design produced by Knoll International. The MR10 chair was first designed in the 1920s, and this set of four features the chrome springs on the backs and seats. Later the design was improved, with a shortening of the springs and a reversion to an elastic corset cord. The chairs still bear the oval sticker marks on the back of the bottom of the seats. MR10 chairs are really comfortable, and are a real design Classic, as seen in many films and other media. Our MR10 chairs recently have been used to decorate the interior of a restaurant in London, which was featured in Architectural Digest, Dezeen, Elle Decoration, and many other publications (as shown in the images, which are property of Child Studio...
