Set of Eight Ilana Goor Forged-Iron Dining Chairs Mexico, Circa 1980s An exceptional set of eight sculptural forged iron dining chairs by the celebrated Israeli designer and sculptor Ilana Goor, produced in Mexico during the late 20th century. Combining Brutalist sensibilities with Mediterranean and Spanish colonial influences, the chairs embody the handcrafted, architectural aesthetic that made Goor’s work highly sought after among collectors and designers alike. Each chair is constructed from hand-worked blackened iron featuring twisted rods, exposed disc-form joinery, curled stretcher elements, and hammered details that intentionally celebrate the artisanal nature of the material. The frames possess a striking balance between strength and refinement, with tall rectilinear backs contrasted by elegant circular motifs and delicate linear supports. The result is both sculptural and highly functional. The existing upholstered backs and seats retain a rich botanical fabric. While attractive as-is, the chairs are also ideal candidates for reupholstery in linen, boucle, leather, or suede, allowing the next owner to tailor the presentation to a wide range of interiors from modern Mediterranean to refined Brutalist or organic contemporary spaces. The reverse of the backrests are stamped “Mexico,” reflecting the country’s long tradition of hand-forged iron craftsmanship and artisan furniture production.
