c. 1950s-1960s; Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, Inc. - Zeeland, MI A complete set of six molded-plywood and chrome-steel side chairs closely following the form and engineering of the Eames DCM (Dining Chair Metal)-the iconic postwar design that paired sculpted plywood shells with a bent-steel base. Each chair features a curved walnut-veneer seat and back, supported by bright tubular steel legs with original nylon glides. The rear shock mounts, visible from behind, echo the Eames method of isolating movement and providing a slight, flexible give to the backrest. The wood grain varies naturally across the set, adding individual warmth to the cohesive group. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames, the DCM became a cornerstone of American modernism-celebrated for its lightweight structure, engineered comfort, and the groundbreaking way it merged industrial production with organic form.
