About the Item

A striking British Mid-Century Modern chaise lounge by Andrew J. Milne, dating to circa 1950 and distinguished by its exceptionally sculptural, flowing profile. The design follows the natural contours of the body, with a sweeping reclining back transitioning seamlessly into the seat and raised leg support. Its low-slung silhouette is enhanced by an expressive curved base, creating an almost floating appearance and giving the chaise a particularly dynamic architectural quality. Upholstered in a sophisticated combination of green and tan leather, the contrasting tan edging traces the entire outline of the chaise and emphasises its sinuous form. The fresh green upholstery provides a bold period accent while retaining the refined character associated with post-war British Modernism. Both sculptural and functional, the chaise demonstrates the experimental approach to form and ergonomics that defined some of the most interesting furniture of the 1950s.
