About the Item

Attributed to Janine Abraham and Dirk Jan Rol, Rattan Lounge Chairs, France, 1960s. This pair of lounge chairs is built from woven rattan and wicker over a wrought iron structure, produced in the manner of the Rougier design house. The sunburst backrest radiates from a central open oval, framed by looped rattan edging that forms a fan-shaped silhouette. Each rattan lounge chair rests on splayed black wrought iron legs that lift the woven seat and give the composition an airy, architectural stance. The contrast between the warm natural rattan and the dark iron base reinforces the graphic quality of these lounge chairs, with hand-wrapped bindings securing each spoke to the frame. The organic curves and radiating structure make this a photogenic set of rattan seating with clear French mid-century character. Good vintage condition. Minor losses to the rattan and surface wear consistent with age and use, with a warm patina throughout.
