About the Item

Beautiful Butterfly chair in dark brown stained pine and leather made in Sweden in 1960. Though we may not know the designer, the chair's top-notch quality speaks for itself. It's a blend of sturdy pine and smooth leather, giving it a unique appearance with a nice contrast between materials. The chair's cross-base has nice dovetail connections, showcasing the skilful craftsmanship of that era. What's even better is that you can easily take it apart for convenient transportation, making it practical and versatile for any space. The leather cover is beautifully connected to the frame with leather triangles which are put over the frame. This feature makes the leather almost floating. The chair is visually attractive from every angle. The leather on this Butterfly chair has aged beautifully, taking on a rich cognac color and gaining a lovely patina over the years. Its warm hue and character tell stories of its history. A beautiful timeless piece, reflecting the craftsmanship and design sensibilities of the past. Sit back and relax in this inviting chair.

Afromosia & Leather Easy Chair by Ib Kofod-Larsen, 1950s

Afromosia & Leather Easy Chair by Ib Kofod-Larsen, 1950s

By Ib Kofod-Larsen

Located in Limhamn, Skåne län

The rare easy chair model “Sälen” designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden during the 1950s, is a remarkable example of Scandinavian mid-century modern design. This sculptural chair exemplifies Kofod-Larsen’s refined craftsmanship and his signature organic forms. The frame is constructed from solid afromosia wood, exhibiting a dark, rich patina that beautifully emphasizes the natural grain and texture of the material. The design features elegantly tapered legs and armrests that flow fluidly into the overall frame, creating a structure that feels both light and robust. The slightly reclined backrest and generous seat width strike a balance between visual harmony and ergonomic comfort. The seat and backrest are upholstered in brown leather, tightly stretched over a curved plywood shell and accented with a row of decorative brass rivets along the backrest, enhancing its aesthetic detail. A loose, generously filled cushion in matching leather adds an additional layer of comfort and softness to the chair. Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of Denmark’s most influential designers, renowned for blending sophistication with functionality. The “Sälen” chair...
