About the Item

This exceptional designer armchair from Carl Straub is an impressive example of the fusion of sculptural form, innovative material use, and high seating comfort. With its powerful, clearly defined silhouette and generous proportions, it appears less like a classic piece of seating furniture and more like an independent object in the room – a statement between function and art. Designed in the 1970s, drawing inspiration from Brutalism and the Space Age. Particularly noteworthy is the rare execution of this model: while most examples were manufactured with lacquered GRP shells, this armchair features high-quality leather cladding on the GRP elements of the backrest and side panels. This execution gives the object exceptional depth and warmth and underscores its exclusive character. The black leather of the seat is in perfect condition, supple and with a subtle, authentic patina that further emphasizes the timeless character of the armchair. The leather-clad GRP elements show slight, age-related signs of wear, which, in the context of the overall appearance, are to be understood as an expression of its history. On the back, there is a spot with slight abrasion. Overall, the armchair is in very good, well-maintained condition. Hidden beneath the extraordinary side panels are four original castors, allowing for subtle mobility without compromising the clear design language. Designer and manufacturer Carl Straub stands for a design ethos that combines industrial materials with artisanal precision, always seeking a dialogue between functionality and aesthetic aspirations. This armchair is a convincing testament to this philosophy and at the same time a rare collector's item that asserts itself confidently in both curated living spaces and gallery-like interiors.
