About the Item

Italian Postwar Pair of Lounge Chairs, Green Velvet, 1950s. This pair of lounge chairs is upholstered in pale green velvet over a fully sprung frame, raised on tapered conical wood legs with brass sabots. The rolled arms and curved wingback silhouette give the chairs a sculptural presence typical of postwar Italian seating, with generous proportions and loose seat cushions. The scrolled arm fronts and softly angled backrest show the architectural line associated with designers such as Gio Ponti and the Turinese workshops of the period. Each lounge chair sits low and wide, combining a substantial upholstered body with slender wooden supports that lift the form off the floor. The green velvet upholstery carries a worn, faded patina that reads as period character across both lounge chairs. Fair vintage condition. Velvet shows fading, staining and pile loss throughout, with a small hole visible on one arm and general wear consistent with age and use. Reupholstery recommended.
