About the Item

Tall hooded rattan beach throne chair in the style associated with Rohe Noordwolde, the Dutch wicker and rattan manufacturer known for producing traditional beach shelter chairs for the Dutch market. The chair features a fully enclosed rectangular hood constructed from open-weave rattan that allows airflow while providing shelter. The lower base section flares outward with a denser woven pattern, and a rope handle on the side allowed for easy transport across a beach. The woven seat sits at the junction of the hood and base. Rohe Noordwolde was a prominent Dutch manufacturer of wicker and rattan furniture, producing pieces that drew on longstanding European coastal traditions. The beach throne — a shelter-style chair designed to block wind and sun — was a fixture on Dutch and North Sea beaches throughout the mid-20th century. These chairs required skilled hand-weaving and were produced in relatively limited quantities compared to mass-market furniture. Wear is heavy and consistent with outdoor beach use over many decades, including visible rattan breakage and splitting in multiple areas. Sold as-is. Suitable for outdoor use only under dry, covered, and protected conditions.
