About the Item

An incredibly stylish, 1960s Midcentury lounge chair by British company Greaves & Thomas, attributed to Walter Cornell, a designer known for creating pieces influenced by Danish Modern style. The chair has a great stance, and is incredibly comfortable to sit in. Sitting neatly underneath the chair is a foot rest, which extends when you lean back in the chair. The beautifully sculptured curved arms are extremely tactile and the fabric chosen to complement the colour of the wood. The chair has been fully reupholstered to the highest standard with new luxurious foam and finished in a beautiful quality dark green hopsack weave wool/flax fabric by Camera. The teak wooden frame is solid and in wonderful condition, and has simply been cleaned and polished. There are a couple of small period marks, which are detailed in the images. Greaves & Thomas was a British furniture maker based in London, known for producing high-quality, fashionable furniture from 1911 to 1967. During the 1950s and 60s, the company embraced a Danish Modern aesthetic, producing teak sideboards, armchairs and dining furniture. Walter Cornell was a key designer for Greaves & Thomas during this period, and is well known for his sculptural, Danish Modern-influenced designs. Measurements: 93cm H x 70cm W x 90cm D.
