About the Item

Le Corbusier 2 ottomane, Durable For Cassina A few measured strokes of the pen and the Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle armchair becomes the consummate synthesis of form and function. Its innovative spirit makes it an icon of all things modern ‒ deemed a masterpiece with timeless appeal. After making design history, an eco-makeover in 2020 kept faith with the original and with Nature, a constant source of inspiration for the authors of the design. Based on research by Cassina LAB, eco-compatible polyols were introduced into the foam-filled elements and a PET-based blown fiber integrated into the cushion padding. CUSHION PADDING In blown recycled polyester fibre. STRUCTURE Tubular structure in brushed nickel with low-gloss finish. FOAM ELEMENTS Integrated with eco-compatible polyols, derived from renewable plant-based resources. A timeless style that has written its own chapter in design history, becoming an icon of global fame. Designed for ease of conversation, the armchair was exhibited at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon] in Paris in 1929 as the archetype of the modern concept of furnishings, interpreted by its authors as “household equipment”. The separation between the metal structure and the cushions is consistent with the principles of Rationalism, just as the separation between the parts is based on an industrial approach to production, reminiscent of the architectural relationship between the loadbearing structure and the in-fill elements. These models are available with a conscious approach to the environment. Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, born from the collaboration with POLI.design at the Milan Polytechnic, the foam-fill parts, the padding in the cushions and the tubular structure are produced with circular materials and processes. Gus Bakker GB Lounge Pouf for Karakter

Gus Bakker GB Lounge Pouf for Karakter

Located in Barcelona, Barcelona

Gus Bakker Gb Lounge Pouf for Karakter Dutch industrial designer Gijs Bakker had already established a reputation for his aluminum jewelry when he decided to turn his attention to designing a chair. Inspired by a competition held by Dunlop, the rubber foam manufacturer, Bakker took a piece of foam, bent it at a 90 degree angle, and fixed it in a metal frame. The result was the GB Lounge, a modular lounge chair whose simple silhouette is enhanced by invitingly overstuffed upholstery. Originally coined “the Levi’s Chair,” Bakker was determined that his design – much like a pair of well-loved jeans – would act as an easygoing antidote to the previous generation’s stiffer tastes. Today, its functionality has been enhanced further with the addition of feet that raise it slightly from the floor for added comfort. Available as a one-seater chair, or with the addition of a pouf, the GB Lounge can be arranged in a variety of ways by connectors that transform it from a solo chair into a multiple seating system. GB Lounge can be upholstered with textiles from Cassina. "Today I look to a very sophisticated version but it keeps the freshness, direct height and easy-going idea of the original." The power of good design is especially evident when the object exists outside its original context, transcending the specific circumstances in which it was conceived and having a universal relevance. Gijs Bakker designed his GB Lounge Chair...

Antonio Citterio Esosoft Bench by Cassina, Mid-Century Modern Italy

Antonio Citterio Esosoft Bench by Cassina, Mid-Century Modern Italy

By Antonio Citterio, Cassina

Located in Barcelona, Barcelona

Antonio Citterio Esosoft bench Manufactured by Cassina in Itlay A living room system designed to define the domestic landscape in a fluid, flexible manner. This is Esosoft ? the first project by Antonio Citterio for Cassina ? a modular sofa that embodies the timeless elegance and style the Italian designer is known for and, at the same time, is an aspirational tribute to the art of the great masters and to the practice of visualizing furniture by detaching the structural part from its padded interior. In fact, Esosoft consists of an aluminium exoskeleton and a shell with an organic silhouette upon which soft cushions are placed. Past and future coexist in this shape ? reminiscent of the concept of casual comfort typical of the 1960s ? that benefits from cutting-edge production techniques, mindfully chosen to make the system circular and sustainable. Thanks to the work of Cassina LAB, materials like a polyurethane foam that contains a percentage of polyols deriving from biological sources and blown recycled PET fibre in the backrest cushions. The Esosoft collection comprises eight modules that can be used as individual sofas or combined to form corner arrangements, lending the utmost flexibility to the configuration of living spaces...
