About the Item

Swedish designer Uno Kristiansson, together with his brother Östen Kristiansson, was a central figure behind the company Luxus in Vittsjö, one of the most influential Scandinavian design producers of the post-war period. Founded in 1950, Luxus quickly established itself as a key name within Swedish modern design, particularly through its innovative lighting. The brothers formed a unique partnership—Östen, the artist and sculptor, brought a strong sense of form and material, while Uno, the entrepreneur and technical mind, developed the production and business side of the company. Although Luxus produced a small selection of furniture, it was primarily through lighting design that Uno and Östen Kristiansson gained international recognition. Their lamps—often combining wood, glass, and later acrylic—became icons of Scandinavian interiors and were widely exported, particularly to the United States and across Europe. What distinguishes their work is a deep sensitivity to materials and a willingness to experiment. During the 1960s and 1970s, Luxus embraced new forms and techniques, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern industrial production. This resulted in objects that feel both innovative and timeless—rooted in nature yet forward-looking in expression.
