About the Item

Camaleonda, designed by Mario Bellini in 1970, is the sofa that defined the interior design aesthetic of an entire era, becoming an icon of Italian design. Camaleonda achieved success after being featured in the exhibition "Italy, The New Domestic Landscape" held at Moma in New York in 1972. A unique and dynamic product in which Mario Bellini has achieved the right balance between the rigorous geometry of the square module, and the welcoming roundness of the padding, emphasizing the elasticity and tactile ergonomics that characterize many of Mario Bellini's design projects. Camaleonda is characterized by the generous upholstery that forms the characteristic capitonné, achieved through an innovative system of cables, hooks and rings, which ensured the appearance and modularity of the elements, which could be used freely and separately from each other. The sofa's pronounced comfort was achieved through the use of polyurethane foam, a modern industrial and technological approach that B&B Italia introduced into the furniture industry at the time, marking an innovative technological approach that shook the upholstered furniture world in those years. This piece still has the original structural material as well as the upholstery, made of soft biscuit-colored pure cotton chenille, now cleaned with specific upholstery products. The back bears the original B&B Italia manufacturer's plate to guarantee the originality of the piece. bibliography: Domus No. 504 (November 1971)-Domus No. 515 (July 1972). - A. Designers: Mario Bellini (1935) is one of the most influential and innovative contemporary architects and designers of the 20th century. Starting in the early 1960s, working on urban planning, he became one of the most critical product and furniture designers of the time. Early in his career, Bellini collaborated with major companies such as Olivetti, Cassina and B&B Italia, experimenting with new materials and techniques that led him to acquire an early knowledge of synthetic resins and polyurethanes, innovating the field and achieving important technical milestones. Internationally renowned, it also sees Bellini an eight-time winner of the Golden Compass Award as well as prestigious architectural awards.
