Circa, Early 21st Century. You had me at Herman Miller!!…. Take another look at this awesome pair of Herman Miller black and chrome armchairs. Aren’t they FABULOUS?? They are wearing their original fabric and let’s just say… its unusually fantastic! It’s gray by combining a black and white weave but there’s an iridescence of teal, red, and yellow when you’re up close or in the right lighting! It’s just beautiful! And these frames!! The elliptical shaped frame is dynamic! The arms have stunning bent chrome corner accents on the front and back of the arm that connect the legs, so it appears to be one flowing piece. Exquisite!! The seat backs and bottom are molded plastic and hold the upholstered cushion, giving the illusion of a “floating” seat. They are in a prestigious class by themselves, and they are versatile enough to go in any room. This pair of armchairs would be perfect extra seating in your living room but would be equally as fabulous in your bedroom, study, or home office. You could also use them as captain’s chairs at your dining table. Possibilities are endless!! Herman Miller started life as Star furniture Co. in Zeeland, Michigan in 1905 a producer of high-quality furniture. Becoming Michigan Star Furniture Co in 1919, and then in 1923, when long time employee Dirk Jan De Pree and his father-in-law purchased 51% of the company stock, it was renamed Herman Miller Furniture Company. And remained so until the 1960s when it became Herman Miller, Inc. Until the 1930s they produced only traditional wood furniture, but the Great Depression caused a need for change, and they hired modernist Gilbert Rohde who took the company in a new successful direction. Upon Rohde’s death in 1944 he was replaced by none other than the renowned George Nelson. Working with the likes of not only Charles and Ray Eames but Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Girard, and Robert Propst, to name just a few, Nelson led Herman Miller to became one of the finest names in furniture and design. Versatility, impeccable style, and iconic notoriety… what more could you ask for? This pair of Herman Miller armchairs has it all… now, you just need to make them yours!! The Metal Office Furniture Company's first products included fireproof metal safes and four-drawer filing cabinets which Wege invented and manufactured for the Macey Company. In 1914, the company received its first product patent for "The Victor," a fireproof steel wastebasket. The Victor gained popularity due to its light weight achieved through a patented process of bending flat steel at right angles to create boxes, and its ability to prevent fires at a time when smoking was common indoors, particularly in the workplace. In 1915, the company began manufacturing and distributing steel desks and in 1937, the company collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on office furniture. The partnership lasted two years and resulted in some of the first modern workstations. The company officially changed its name to Steelcase, Inc. in 1954 and became known as the leader of the furniture industry in the late 1960s due to the volume of its sales and in 1973, the company debuted the Series 9000 furniture line.
